Phobias

             A phobia is, "a persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid despite the awareness and reassurance that is not dangerous." Many phobias keep people away from things that they could possibly enjoy and things that their close friends and family might enjoy. There are three common types of phobias such as; Agoraphobia, Social Phobia, and Simple Phobias. Phobias generally are not that hard to get over, but some people have to get intense therapy and may never get over their fear.
             Agoraphobia usually starts between the late adolescent stage and early adulthood. Agoraphobia means a fear of open spaces. People suffering with this disorder usually become restricted to their homes unless they are with someone that they truly trust. These people may also abuse alcohol in effort to keep their anxiety in check. In order to get this disease fixed people with Agoraphobia should seek help right away or talk to someone that can help.
             Social Phobia occurs when there is an extreme fear of intimate social situations, such as small groups of people at parties. This is different to the fear of contact with crowds of people, as with agoraphobia. People with social phobia have no self-confidence with people they do not know, and fear that strangers are being clearly critical of them. They may also fear that they will behave in an upsetting way, such as blushing or shaking in public. In a number of cases, social phobia may lead to too much drinking, as some people with social phobia feel they need to drink to firm their nerves before any social event. Some people with this disorder have a particular fear of eating in public, or of any encounters with the opposite sex. This may lead to people having very lonely lives, as the try to avoid any social situation outside their immediate family.
