             Adolescence is a period of human development that is a transition from childhood to adulthood. It starts at puberty where the individual experiences physiological changes such as rapid body growth and development of secondary sex characteristics.
             Adolescents are being considered neither a child nor an adult. An individual in the stage of adolescence has developing roles and tasks. However, responsibility is not yet defined and he/she is still under the authority of his/her parents. The adolescent is economically and emotionally dependent and relatively immature. Those who get pregnant in their adolescent years usually delay their schooling and as a result they do not have sufficient resource of income to support their family. Most of them usually depend on their parents for financial support or to their husbands who have jobs.
             Although marriage is not generally associated with adolescence, teen-age marriages are more prevalent than is commonly thought.
             The best age to bear a child is between 20 and 29. Before 20 years old, the reproductive apparatus may not yet be fully developed. Complications in labor and delivery are common among adolescents. Mothers under 19 are less likely than older mother to initiate prenatal care during the first trimester of pregnancy. Infants born to mothers under 17 are at great risk than those born to women in there 20's and 30's.
             Parenting is a unique experience of adulthood. There may be some developmental antecedents to parenting such as baby-sitting, caring for younger siblings or working with children as a camp counselor or a teacher. Childcare implies being able to anticipate the responsibilities attached to it. Adolescent mothers are less ready for childcare responsibilities because they do not anticipate it compared to adult mothers.
             Positive exchanges among married couples are crucial ingredient that may contribute to enduring, satisfying relationships.
