Balanced Branches

The system of checks and balances was established by our founding fathers as a principle of government that holds that the powers of the various branches should overlap to avoid power becoming overly concentrated in one branch.f In order to prevent a tyranny, the United States has a system of three branches in government. The executive and legislative branches cause the most controversy on how they balance each other. The executive branch checks the legislative branch by giving the power to the president to veto legislation, call special sessions, recommend legislation, and appeal to the people. The legislative branch checks the executive branch by having Congress create special agencies and programs, appropriate funds
