What is history of america 1845

Citizenship means someone who has a stake in the nation and responsibilities to it, who must support it, with taxes and defend it during wartime, who is represented and respected; who can participate in the decision making process by voting, and who has a right to be protected by its government" Unfortunately, according to some there were individuals who did not deserve this privilege. Between 1607-1864 there was always controversy on who was allowed to be citizen. In 1607 England ruled and as time went on colonist began to break away, they didn't want to pay the taxes England was forcing them to pay. They felt they could do better on their own and broke away from the English government. The American Revolution was the outcome and as a result elite white men who owned property and paid taxes thought they were the only ones who deserved the privilege of citizenship, but this left out 70% of the population; which included non elite white males, Indians, African Americans and Women. In the following paragraphs I hope you will see the struggles that these groups went through and show you if they ever became citizens. Non elite white males had to gain land if they wanted citizenship and to be able to pay taxes, this qualificatio

In the 1800's women were showing progress by their roles being recognized by other men Charles Finney who wrote a Conversion Experience felt women should be treated as equal as men. In documents Morals of A Manufacture and a Mill Worker we see women were entering the mills and working. In the 1700's the poor white were becoming closer to gaining citizenship because of all the slaves coming over. In the document about the Republican Party Platform of 1860 we see, they stated that "no person should be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law". He wanted the Indians to become their own government. It didn't work and the Civil War continued on. Anne Hutchinson believed women shouldn't be at home , she tried to fight for women rights, but was thrown out of her community in 1637, for believing in a different way. Documents about slavery and prejudice and conflicts between masters and salves show how cruel the blacks were treated they were even considered animal like. In the document The Poor Reptiles we also see how elite members of society viewed the poor as a a mob, and a flock of sheep. The war arouse and after people were denied their right to a pension which left many of these Frontier men with no money. Unfortunately from 1754-1755 we see how the Indians were trying to respect the whites but, they were taken their land, they tried to escape hostility and now were being treated as aliens in there own world. Here was a slave who went with his master to territory were slavery did not exist. I feel many people didn't want them to succeed maybe they were scared. Men were started to realize that slavery was immoral, but blacks weren't any closer to citizenship In 1776 some slaves were free but, still couldn't get property, If they tried to get land in the south they were denied and they went to the north.
