Life (socrates and myself)
The meaning of life has been debated since man was created. Many philosophers have published their views and beliefs throughout time. Similarly, every ordinary person at one time or another has undoubtedly pondered about life, its meaning, and our purpose. In this essay, I will delve into my views on the meaning of life, my purpose, morals, truth, and many other age-old topics that continue to be undefined. I will include the beliefs of great philosophers such as Socrates and Sarta. Then, I will compare and contrast their thoughts to my own. Finally, I will conclude the essay with reflective thoughts. In my mind, the meaning of life is broken down to one simple word: love. From the moment a child is born, to the funeral ceremony when they die, there is love. When a child is brought into the world, it is held by loving arms of its mother. Also, the doctors and nurses that love their job are there to assist the process. Love is not just something shared between humans. Love can be for a pet, sport, hobby, religion, or place. Love is everywhere. If a person goes a lifetime hiding from love, and never giving love, what have they accomplished? If a person refuses to love, then the people they interact with suffer as wel
Contrarily, truth cannot be false or wrong. Love is so wide-spread that people don't even realize it sometimes. Another topic that Socrates was very passionate about is truth. The media has somewhat of an obligation to deliver an honest publication of whatever they are covering. Should we sacrifice the truth in order to build patriotism, or maintain the current level? I feel the government can either deny the public information, or they can broadcast it. Upon finishing the body of the essay, I can now reflect on what I have just thought about and said. With great thinkers in our past, such as Socrates, Sarta and others, it is inevitable that their beliefs will be challenged or agreed with by other great thinkers and amateurs alike. Receiving love from another person in any fashion is fulfilling and satisfying. Whether it is telling my mother happy birthday, visiting my grandparents when I'm home, picking up a coffee for my girlfriend, celebrating a victory with my hockey team, or saying hello to a passer-by on campus, I am sharing love and satisfying what I believe to be our purpose in life. In addition to the media and government's obligations, we as individuals have moral obligations. I know that my actions do not mirror my beliefs, however, I feel that when I make a conscious effort, I am able to live how I desire. Nonetheless, I do not blatantly disregard my beliefs and say one thing while doing another. My purpose in life is to accept love and in turn, supply love for others. Stealing is bringing down some one else, littering is bringing down everyone in the long-run, and tax fraud is hurting our nation. Even such cases as being a happy person in a work environment or when people are not in a joyful mood, you can change some one's day, week, or even life by sharing your love.
