What emerged expunged the Common Man forever. The Stars My Destination pg 22 Gully Foyle. Uneducated. A short description given by the author Alfred Bester of his main character as the stereotypical Common Man of humanity. Within the few pages of just the first chapter, Bester had pulled me into the diluted, freakish mind of Gully Foyle. The Story... As the story began, Gulliver Foyle was awaiting death aboard the wreckage ship NOMAD in deep space. Foyle just happened to be the sole survivor. Until one day, a sister ship to the NOMAD, VOLGA managed to cross paths with the wreckage. Foyle did everything he could to send out rescue signals. As his ship drifted out further into space, Foyle had spent his entire time aboard not welcoming death anymore. For the first time in his life, Foyle was now motivated,by revenge. Revenge Lies Within Us All Revenge is an instinctive human characteristic. The emotions and actions associated with revenge are neither preventable nor controllable. But the effects of revenge may either be treated freely as an act of nature and be allowed to take their course, or they may be treated and punished like a crime. Deemed as the main opponent to Foyle but hidden behind VOLGA. Over time, Jigs had convinced Foyle that his actions towards VOLGA were not justified. What Foyle did t realize was that he was already a wanted man by Presetting? For Presetting, he had his own agenda with Foyle. Jaunting through each security wall until he got to his target. The place exploded and Foyle s life was in jeopardy. His face returned to normal, but at times when he was overwhelmed with emotions, his face would turn flaming red at where the tattoo uses to be. Of all the characters, it seemed to me that Jigs was the strongest of all side characters. In the ten months Foyle spent at the underground hospital, he befriended another inmate. After following leads and tips, Foyle had discovered the port where VOLGA was stationed at.
