Descriptive essay

             Five years ago, this very day a tragedy occurred in the Raya household. I know this because I am a member of this household and I was present during this catastrophe.
             It was during the time I was attending the 6th grade. My parents had been on vacation for the past week and they had come back tonight. We all got ready for bed and soon drifted off into a deep and peaceful sleep. None of us knew what was to come only a few hours later.
             The clock read 4:28 a.m. and we were completely asleep. Only a minute later, a neighbor of ours began ringing the doorbell, desperately trying to wake us and get our attention. My half-brother, whose room is downstairs, heard the doorbell and drowsily walked towards the door to answer it. The young man frantically tried to get his words out, "Your house is on fire!" he cried. At that moment my brother ran and knocked on my sister's room. She awoke and as soon as she understood his message, she pushed my little brother and I out of bed. "Erika, get up quick! The house is on fire!", those were the first words that snapped me back into reality.
             I rapidly grabbed hold of my brother's hand and led him outside through the front door. Meanwhile, my sister was having trouble in my parents room. She told them to get out of the house, but they didn't budge because they did not believe her. She quickly repeated what the neighbor had said. It then dawned on my parents... "Maybe she is telling the truth", they thought. They then also hurried outside with the rest of the family.
             The firefighters arrived twenty minutes later. It became ironic to me they showed up so late and to top it all off they had brought McDonalds breakfast and they were all sitting on our sidewalk taking their time watching our house burn. They said they could not do anything at the moment.
