             Violence has always been apart of our society, and as the amount of violence that occurs rises, people have become more immune to it. Violence is as simple as one child hitting another to the worse case scenario of capital murder. Researches have always been interested in what makes people react in violent ways to certain situations. Those people today that have a tolerance for violence leave others wondering how did they come about adapting to this tolerance? Many claim that everyday lifestyles play a crucial role in tolerance.
             One factor that may be key is alcohol use. The more alcohol consumed, the larger the amount of tolerance for violence a person seems to have. Aggregate level studies examining the alcohol-crime association have demonstrated that an increase in the population's drinking level is followed by an increase in rates of violence in that population (Lenke, 1990; Norstrom, 1993; Parker & Rehbun, 1995). Those who tend to consume alcohol more often in larger quantities seem to be more likely to carry out aggressive acts.
             Another factor that is crucial is the accident history of a person. Those who were in a severe accident or wars that left a lasting affect of anger and aggression will tend to have a stronger sense of tolerance for violence. These people may react aggressively and not realize that they are. Military and veteran populations appear to be at particular risk for male-perpetrated marital violence, with military couples reporting higher rates of violence against women (VAW; J. R. Bohannon and D. A. Dosser, Jr. , 1995), greater severity of VAW (A. Shupe et al, 1987), and greater risk of victim injury associated with VAW (A. L. Cantos et al, 1994) when compared to their civilian counterparts.
