Characteristics of a good reader/writer

Characteristics Of A Good Reader/WriterI believe that there are several factors involved in considering what is good writing/reading and what is not. A good writing must flow smoothly via sentence fluency, have interesting ideas, use correct word choice and be well organized throughout. To list all the many characteristics of good readers are impossible, however, a good reader sometimes reads for literary experience, reading to be in formed, form an initial understanding and develop an interpretation. In my opinion, for a piece of writing to be considered good quality writing there are a few aspects that the writing needs to contain. For example, ideas are the heart of the message, the content of the writing, the main theme. The ideas are strong when the message is clear, not garbled. The writer chooses details that are interesting, important, and informative, often the kinds of details the reader would not normally anticipate or predict. Successful writers do not tell readers things they already know; e.g., "It was a sunny day, and the sky was blue, the clouds were fluffy white" They notice what others overlook, seek out the extraordinary, the unusual, the bits and pieces of life that others might not see. Organization is

They read often and have developed their own criteria for what makes a text enjoyable or useful. In persuasive writing, careful word choice moves the reader to a new vision of things. When analyzing what makes a good writer/reader it is a matter of opinion and what you value in a literary work. Sentence Fluency is the rhythm and flow of the language, the sound of word patterns, the way in which the writing plays to the ear, not just to the eye. Fluent writing has cadence, power, rhythm, and movement. Events proceed logically; information is given to the reader in the right doses at the right times so that the reader never loses interest. Sentences vary in length and style, and are so well crafted that the writer moves through the piece with ease. In these reading situations, readers explore the human condition and consider interplays among events, emotions, and possibilities. It involves considering the text as a whole or in a broad perspective. In reading for literary experience, readers are guided by what and how an author might write in a specific genre and by their expectations of how the text will be organized. They choose to read a variety of materials, recognizing that reading serves many purposes in their lives. How does it sound when read aloud? That's the test. It is free of awkward word patterns that slow the reader's progress. The type of prose found in such texts has its own features and readers need to be aware of those features to understand it. Readers read to be informed for different purposes; for example, to find specific pieces of information when preparing a research project or to get some general information when glancing through a magazine article.
