Is Single Sex Teaching Effective?
Do you think single sex teaching is effective? Why would anyone want to go to an all boys' schools? Can you imagine school without girls, cheer leaders, and gossiping about girls? We may think about this and decide there are no advantages to an all boys' school, but in reality, single sex schools have many. Believe it or not, having girls around is not the most important factor in our education. I believe all boys' schools are more advantageous than coeducational schools because there are fewer distractions and you will have more confidence socially and academically. One of the advantages of single sex education system is there are fewer distractions. "In general, their attention was more on the academic activities," says Lorraine Perry(Harrison, 78). I believe the single sex education system will help students to concentrate more on a
Can you ask a question about girls' body system to a biology teacher at the front of girls? It's very painful to ask a question in coeducation schools. "They must compete," said Eleanor Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority Foundations (Smeal). I believe we still can compete each other even though we're not at the same school or same classroom. (Harrison, p77) According to what I believe and what Genora said in the article, I strongly agree with her. We can learn better without distraction by others, don't have to worry about something other than the academic issues and we don't have to feel afraid of raising our hand to answer the question. For example, even if I know the answers to the question in class, I will avoid raising my hand in class because I'm afraid that the answer might wrong, and afraid the girls will laugh at me and think I'm stupid. For example, many students choose to wear clothes that make them more attractive to the opposite sex. Without girls in class, it seems no fun at all, but we still can educate ourselves better. She believes that boys and girls should compete each other therefore she is against single-sex education. "If there were boys, I'd be scared to talk out," says 12 year old Genora Turner. According to what I believe, single sex teaching is effective. Therefore, I believe single sex education system help us to learn better than coeducation school system. Since there is no one to be afraid of, I will be able to answer the question without worrying about others.
