In 1992, I went to the Doctor to take a picture of x-ray on my chest. After I examine my chest via x-ray, my doctor asked me if I'm smoking a cigarette. Of course, I told him that I don't smoke a cigarette at all. Then I asked him why. He told me that my lungs are same as person who smokes a cigarette. Smoking is a kind of pleasure for smokers but it can harm people who do not smoke a cigarette too. Smokers might say it is their right to smoke where and when they want but on the other hand, non-smokers feel smokers violate their rights. Therefore I believe smoking should not be allowed in all public places.
             First, Secondhand smoke can increase the risk of heart disease. It is well known fact that smoke of cigarette contains cotinine. "The BMJ (British Medical Journal) study shows us that men with higher cotinine levels demonstrated the 50-60% greater risk of heart disease. Cotinine, which is metabolized nicotine in the blood, is the most reliable measure of secondhand smoke exposure."(Jones) It is said that the health damage that is given by the passive smoking is very critical to their health. I'm very sure that It is almost impossible for us to avoid secondhand smoke if we're standing right beside the person who smokes cigarette. Therefore we should not allowed person to smoke in all public places because when they smoke at public place, they have to realize they are forcing other people around them to smoke cigarette too.
             Second, smoke can be a weapon. When my friend was in high school in Korea, he was captured by gangster and they asked him for money. When he refused, they start beating him and shoving cigarette at his hand. They used cigarette as a 'Weapon'. From the experince I realized that cigarette itself can be dangerous, not just it chemically harmful. Back in tragedy of Sept. 11, terrorists did not used gun to high jack the airplane.
