The Judgment of Solomon
What would you have done? How would you have handled such a problem? King Solomon is a good king and a wise and powerful man because he is led by God and it shows. His decisions show that he has his trust in the lord. They also show that he is a wise and a fair king, because of it. At the end of the story it says, "All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, for they saw the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment. The first thing we can look at to prove that King Solomon was a good leader is that his people feared him. In order for a king to be great, powerful, and respected by his people, they must fear him. If a king is a push-over or if he is too nice, then his laws will not be honored, and his judgments not sought or honored. Another thing that added to the king's might was the fact that the people "saw the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment." People also fear the wrath of God, and nobody in their right mind argues with His judgment, therefore this gave Solomon more control and enabled him to make and enforce great decisions. So we can see that "they" only feared Solomon because he was a great King. Second we can see that Solomon is a fair king. The two women who c
First Solomon makes no mistake in being completely serious, when he says, "Bring me a sword. This shows that because over anyone else the women go to the king, and he does solve the problem rather quickly, and efficiently. First there is only one setting, which we assume is the king's palace, because the women seek the king's judgment, and the king servant's are readily available when he need his sword and so forth. " This choosing of a sword above all things to decide the child's fate, a sword also representing strength, wisdom, and power, was a freighting and authoritative statement, which scared the real mother into confessing that the child was hers. This way the audience could draw their own conclusions about the story, without outside influence, and one of the big ones, was how important it was in this story foe the king to be wise, powerful, fair, and a man of God, a great leader. Although Solomon threatens to kill the child by cutting it in half, this is only, because if these women are harlots then there are no witnesses or any other way to solve this dispute. This way there is no other views, and all we know of is that what the king and harlots say, and the narrator. Over all this stories proves that king Solomon is a great leader. This shows that he looked at the woman as a mother and not as just a harlot. Solomon doesn't make this threat, because of a lack of caring or the child's fate, even though it is a child of a harlot, he makes this treat or resolution of cutting this child in half, because Solomon is wise enough to know that only the real mother would love the child enough to give it up to other women over having it killed. Also something that is missing from the story is an explicit editorial comment or interpretation, except for the brief remark at the end that the people "feared the king. Solomon goes further and uses the mother's words, "O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it," when he decides the child's true fate. " and "Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. This also shows that even though there is very little evidence to go on Solomon was wise enough to come up with his own solution to finding out who was telling the truth and who was lying.
