A Rock to Remember

             I was enjoying my summer vacation up in the cozy White Mountains of New Hampshire. My family had went every year from the time I was about 10 year's old. We went along with a few other families and relatives. It was our annual retreat away from home. The first couple of years we starting taking these trips, we spent a single day driving into the mountains and enjoying the outdoors. It then progressed into a camping ordeal. We did everything outdoors from showering to cooking. Because the summers were so hot, we all looked forward to cooling ourselves off. There was no beach for miles, but there was always a river along side our camp site.
             The previous summer we went to the same location yet the waters were more calm and there were more people swimming and jumping off the rock on the oppose side of the makeshift beach. This year was different. The water level seemed higher. The weather was a little colder. There were different faces that went to our camping trip this year. Many of our friends had gone last year.
             There was a big rock on the other side of the river where we all swam towards. Being that I was a year older, I felt more confident in swimming. The current was stronger, yet I believed I could make it to the other side and lay on the huge rock where it felt like only the superior group of swimmer could make their way over. I was the first to make it, struggling slightly but when my hand touched the rock I felt that I made it. My best friend was next and I was confident that he'd make it and he made it with ease. The last of our group was my best friends cousin. He was only a year younger, but not as athletic as us. We felt he could make it, though.
             We did it last year when the current was more calm. Last year we were the youngest kids to make it over to the rock and we were having a blast jumping off and performing crazy tricks. We started with the easiest stuff; jumping off in a cannonball ...
