In the essay Where College Fails Us, by Caroline Bird she talks about how society tells all high school graduates that they should attend college right after high school because it will make them become better people. But, what if college is not for everyone? Maybe some students are not meant to go to college, maybe some of them are meant to go to work straight after high school or they are meant to get an alternative source of training or education. If we tell every student that they should go to college to get a better high paying job then we are lying to them because not everyone who goes to college is going to get a high paying job that they have a degree in because there is not enough available positions. After reading this essay I have decided that before students should go to college they should think about the real reason that they are going. Are they going because society tells them to or, are they going because they truly love learning and want to further their education. Students need to realize that college is not the ultimate answer for everyone and if they do not think that it is truly for them then they might want to think of different options for their future.
             From the moment high school freshman step foot in school they are being questioned about their plans for the future and the intensity of these questions just continue to grow as they progress through their high school years until they reach their senior year. This is when the true craziness begins. This is the time where they go through fifty college visits, look at a million different brochures, sit through every college rep telling them why their college is the right one for them and in the end they end up basing their decision on which campus looks like the most fun or who gave them the best pen while they were there.
