After Apple Picking Brief Analysis
I found this poem in a collection of Robert Frost Poetry. After reading "Blackberry Picking" by Seamus Heaney, I was amazed by the deep meanings involved with blackberries so by my guessing "after Apple Picking" should have as deep a meaning as "blackberry picking", and so I chose the poem.On the literal sense After Apple picking is a poem about a person talking about his long day of apple picking. Throughout the day he's already been drowsy and dreamy since he's looked into the glass. Now he fdeels tired and sleepy, he wonders whetehr or not it's normal or if here's somethingm ore to it.After Apple Picking is a poem read very often during an American celebration- thanksgiving there;s no exact written explanation as to why but I'm guessing the Americans took thepoem in a literal sense as apple pikcing can be referred to as the heavest of the people, and thanks giving is about refelcting on a good harvest. And
After carefully analyzing After Apple Picking I come to a conclusion that it's purely a master piece by the genius of Poetry, Robert Frost and reading this poem was certainly a valuable life lesson. Yet the apples can also be a metaphor for the coices in life thatpeople are ultimately responsible for the choices they pick. This is a very effective metaphor as it is very easy for people from different societies to conjure up the image of gathering fruit with the idea of grasping at opportunities or the choices in life. This technique allows the responder to paint more vivid images as the narrator remebers his appl picking days and allows mroe evnets to be spoken about without getting the responder confused with what the narrater felt, is feelingor dreamt, by adopting thisI think the composer is trying to show how people cecome so oblivious to events thate reality becomes mixed up with dreams. Another technique I'd like to discuss is the chnaging of tense. Some lines were notably longer while others were notably shorter, the shorter lines actuallyplayed a veryimportant role as it grabs the responders attention and keeps them wake in the midst of the longer lines or when the narrator drifts off into his dream. I really liked the use of apples as a metaphor for opportunities because it allowed me the responder to think about my own opportunities and some that were too high up in he branch to get hold onto, for insatnce "there may be two or three apples I didn't picki" makes the responder feel as though the narrator is already content with what he has depsite mising out on a few things and perhaps people should be content with what they have and not keep asking. From the poem I was able to draw on many ideas about apples. keeping this informaton inmind the ideas, symbols and meanings become more apparent and significant. What I like most about this poem and the restof Frosts poetry is the way he is able to use simple objects to convey deep and abstract ideas such the roads in "The Road not Taken" and in this case the apples. In the conext of the poem , apples can be seen as the opportunities in life, eg " there may be two or three apples I didn't pick upon some bough" can be seen as the opportunities missed inlife, and the idea of picking conjures up the image of how people grasp at their opportunities in life. Another aspect of the poem I really liked was the way the poem didn't follow any strict poetic conventions which allowas a better flow of ideas.
