Hamlets tragic flaw

             William Shakespeare wrote many plays in his lifetime, one of them being Hamlet. The tragedy of Hamlet took place in a castle in Denmark, where Hamlet's father, the formor King was suspected to have been killed by Hamlet's Uncle Claudius. Claudius then married Hamlet's mother Queen Gertrude, and the stress on Hamlet by all of this is what created Hamlet's tragic flaw. A tragic flaw is the moral weakness that causes the death of the tragic hero. The Tragic hero is the main character of the play who dies. Hamlet's tragic flaw is his inconsistant approach to making decisions. This character trait single handedly caused his rapid spiral downward to his demise.
             Hamlet had a hard time making decisions and had a tendancey to procrastinate. Hamlet had numerous chances to avenge his father's untimely death by killing Claudius, but always seemed to think himself out of it befor he ever got it done. For example in Act III, iii, Hamlet was standing behind Claudius with his sword drawn and was about to take revenge, but then thought himself out of it. He chose not to kill Claudius at that point becuase he wanted to wait until Claudius was doing something that had "no relish of salvation in't."(III,iii,93) which means that Claudius will not benefit by going to Heaven. Another example of this would have been when Hamlet inserted the lines into the play called "The Murder of Gonzago", in Act III,ii. Hamet renamed the play, "The Mouce Trap", because he was using the play to see if Claudius got squeemish when he saw the reinactment of the murder. By Hamlet reinacting the murder he was simply procrastinating, when he could have taken the ghost of Hamlet Sr.'s word for it that Claudius was guilty of the crime.
