The 3 Gorges Dam project is set to be the largest dam in the world with a 1.2-mile stretch of concrete and a 370 mile-long reservoir at 525 feet deep. It will be located on the river Yangtze (the third largest river in the world) and the project will cost more than any other single construction project in history. This leaflet will outline the problems and concerns of this huge eye-saw and why the project should be seriously thought about being put to a stop. The construction of the dam will lead to many problems and will include many disadvantages to the people living in the surrounding area, villages, a

Also the project will submerge some of China's most famous historical scenery and tourist sites and historical scenery leading to a huge cut in tousism. Endangered species could be wiped out due to all of the pollution. if˜ Millions of acres of crops will be destroyed and so this could even lead to a shortage of food. Some of the concerns are as follows:if˜ It will cost a huge amount of money, L15 billion to be precise which will mean that the government will still be paying for the project in decades to come. if˜ There will be a huge amount of power from the water pushing against the dam and so if the dam did ever collapse it would be a massive disaster and kill millions of people. if˜ The dam will prevent pollutants from being flushed into the sea and so millions of tonnes of solid waste will pile up onto the banks of the river and reservoir. if˜ Much of china's culture will be lost in the sense of historical destruction, 800 sites of local culture will be submerged, including more than 300 sites above ground.
