Diogenes and Alexander
The story Diogenes and Alexander is about two men living completely differently in Greece. One is trying to live the simple life while the other is a king, living lavishly. One doesn't have to worry about anyone but himself, yet the other has to worry about an entire country. Another difference between them is that one of them basically educated himself, while the other was taught by Aristotle.
Alexander had an entire country to worry about. He would rather have nothing than anything at all. Diogenes only had to worry about himself. While everyone else bowed, he did nothing. " This meant that if he was not king, he would want to be Diogenes. Instead of rising in respect, he just sat up on one elbow. He had money, a palace, and an entire country full of people to worry about. He was a philosopher who had many admirers, including Alexander. Diogenes didn't believe in possessions and money. After all this Alexander said, "If I were not Alexander, I should be Diogenes. One thing that Aristotle taught Alexander was "to seek out everything strange which might be instructive. When Alexander called for Diogenes to come to the palace, he came but did not behave like the rest of the people in the palace. Alexander was the king of Greece.
