We may not realize the importance of minor characters while reading novels, but as a matter of fact, they are the main catalysts in most novels or plays! Their characters have a lot of depth to them and they have significant effects on other characters and events in the novel or play.I am going to discuss the parts played by some of these characters in 'A Doll's House', 'Therese Raquin' and 'The Great Gatsby'.There are three minor characters in 'A Doll's House' but they have each have a very important role. Kristine Linde was a childhood friend of Nora's. She has a major effect on the events that happen in the play. She is the first character to see that Nora is not a child. Nora is just acting to fit into the role Torvald has carved for her. Mrs.Linde is a savior for Nora. She has gone through many tough times so she has much more real world experience than Nora. She once had true love, but made the mistake of leaving it for stability and money. She suffered because of the choices she made and is much stronger because of them. At a young age Kristine sacrificed her happiness to take care of her dying mother and two younger brothers. Apart from Dr.Rank, Mrs.Linde is also Nora's close friend. She is a foil to Nora. Nora w

He is available emotionally while Torvald is no. She nearly becomes a prostitute because of her strong sexual desires that she has been deprived of. Madame Raquin has embossed Therese's true character inside to such an extent, that Therese just spills it out one day. Camille also leads to important events that happen throughout the novel. He was constantly given attention and care which did not give him a chance to 'grow up'. During the play Krogstad completely turns around. Not only does he reveal the nature of other characters but he also brings about themes in the play such as the passing of the father's sins. Torvald is pusillanimous, stubborn and unwilling to change. as weak, frail and only knew how to live by Torvald's rules. All of the bad things Krogstad tried to do to Nora ended up helping her.
