Media Analysis
The television series I chose to do was the Real World: Philadelphia. The reason I chose to do this show is that the producers seem to touch a lot of cultural issues. Also, the cast of this show includes people from different cultural backgrounds. It is very interesting to see how they relate with each other. This particular show has two people that I thought would be good subjects for my analysis. I chose to analyze the African- American group because the etics of African-American culture is very prominent in this particular show. There are certain psychological traits of two African American cast members (Karamo and Shevonda) that are influenced by their upbringing, and socioeconomic status. Previous to viewing the episodes it was presumed that they would be portrayed as individuals, as well as a reflection of their culture group. Everyone has their own unique contributes of life that shape who they become, but there are also cultural factors that shape African- Americans as a whole. I expected for the show to be accurate because it exposes the reality of the way their culture relates to other cultures. The portrayal of the African American group was accurate because it touched a lot of issues th
Gay stereotyping was prevalent in the Real World. The portrayal was negative because it shows the hardships that some African- Americans still suffer through today. One of the reasons why Karamo might have felt discriminated is his enculturation. They were portrayed as a culture as well as individuals. S and racism are some of the cultural factors that effect the portrayal of the group. It is very distressing to see someone interrogated in regards to their color, or to know that some African Americans as a minority typically are of low economic status. He had stated that he was heavily influenced by his father regarding his feelings towards whites. Karamo was portrayed as very sensitive regarding his race and slightly racist towards whites. Although discrimination is illegal there are some whites that do discriminate informally. The police pursued to search and interrogate him. Consequently, it was not very surprising to see how they were portrayed. Culture has effected the show in that everyone had their own enculturation and they were brought together to relate. This show can influence culture by teaching viewers the reality of today's world and maybe influence some of their viewpoints. The history of African Americans in the U.
