All around the world, people suffer from trying to impress other people and themselves with body image. The majority of people do things to improve their body image. They try to change their appearance and personal character by trying to impress the public. Many people these days go to the extremes of having plastic surgeries and many other types of extreme make- overs. Many teenagers these days have very low self esteem and it usually begins around the time of puberty. These days we hear a lot about the many types of eating disorders and how it is affecting today's society. People do things to change their appearance with out themselves even knowing what is going on, due to the fact that body image is such an influence in the everyday life. In today's society there is a wide variety of plastic surgeons that can do anything from breast augmentation to dramatically changing the look and shape of ones face. Plastic surgeons make a great deal of money and enjoy making people feel beautiful on the outside and help them gain their self esteem. Low self-esteem leads to eating disorders in many cases. The shows are so over rated because they make the viewer relate to the people that are on the show, so automatically the viewer wants to improve the way they look. The second most common eating disorder is Bulimia Nervosa, which is characterized by a secretive cycle of binge eating followed by purging. People have low self-esteem due to their body image because they feel that if they're not picture perfect that they will be judged by society. Anorexia Nervosa is one of the main eating disorders and it is characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss. Many teenagers these days have very low self-esteem around the time that puberty begins. The media doesn't help much because everywhere you look there is something somewhere having to deal with diets, being beautiful and the most beautiful models and actresses all over the place. Plastic surgery has become so popular that some parents are even getting their children breast augmentation as a graduation gift. After a person has taken so many doses of steroids it is hard for them to let go or completely stop taking them. The male gender often want to become larger and look stronger due media, and of the role that men are supposed to have. This is due to the fact that teenagers relate themselves to the images that they portray as the "perfect" body. So in conclusion, body image will always be something that people will suffer with whether they try to change their appearance or be themselves. It lives through every thing that is in our daily lives. It is not just women involving themselves with eating disorders, many males these days have also developed eating disorders.
