The Role of ICT

ICT is changing people lives everywhere. This goes from the home to the office. No matter who the person is they will have come into contact with ICT and it will have helped them in some way. 3 areas where ICT has changed are: 1. Individuals 2. Organisations 3. Society It is these I will be discussing. The first is individuals. ICT has a big impact on people in their everyday lives and is affecting people in different ways. Technology is all around us but most people do not realise. It is taken for granted because of how common it is. The way it is changing people lives is though things such as the internet and mobile phones. Most people now have access to the internet whether it is at home or in the local Library. It is allowing people to find whatever information they want whenever they need it. We can also talk to people all over the world for free through instant messenger programs and Email. Mobile phones are allowing us to communicate at anytime anywhere we are. This means that people no longer have to either look for a phone box or have to wait until they get home to talk to someone. It is making life easier and quicker for businesses and is allowing them to expand. This is making it so they cannot compete because while all the other companies can expand and reach a wider audience the other companies are left out. This is making it easier for people to talk to more people and not just people they see who live local. Also with the online shops it means that more people are just shopping from home which means that the high street shop is no longer getting as many people going there. In conclusion this technology is having a good benefit to people but the main problem is that it is leaving some people behind. Because of this they can no longer stay in business and this then means that shopping will be dominated by the shops that can afford technology and the ones that cannot are then stopped. There is no need to now leave the house so people do not go out as often. There are many ways in which technology is helping society though. Also with hacking peoples personal details and things such as credit card numbers can be found out although this is a very small risk. Another disadvantage is people hacking and theft. It is changing the way people do things in society. Also people who do not have the technology are left behind. This is making life better for people because before this technology people couldn"tmt keep in touch easily and it could cost quite a lot of money to do so. The disadvantages of this technology are that people are no longer socialising as much.
