Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a spreading disease that is not untreatable but can be deadly if not taken seriously. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that is developed from multiple cells. The disease occurs mostly in women, but does occur rarely in men. Breast cancer is a very serious concern in my family due to the disease being present in my grandmother, her mother, and her mom's mom. It goes deep into our gene pool and can be deadly if not taken with extreme caution and awareness. Breast cancer, which can be found in men and women, involves risks, symptoms, and treatments shared by both. More women get breast cancer than any other type of cancer: about 1 in 12 will have the disease at some point in her life (Massari 9). A woman's risk of developing breast cancer doubles every 10 years. Although breast cancer is the most common cause of death in women between the ages of 25 and 50, many women, including under the age of 50, are correctly diagnosed with and successfully treated for the disease (Massari 10). A woman should always know what her risks are when dealing with breast cancer, or any cancer for that matter. Four main factors that can increase the chance of breast cancer are aging, alcohol c

Many think breast cancer is a disease for just women but that is a misleading belief, in fact men can and will get the disease also. The best course of treatment is based on a number of factors. The incidence of male breast cancer in the United States remained stable for approximately fifty years, but in recent years, it has began to show up more and more (Haylock 1). These drugs travel throughout the body in the bloodstream. If a woman does not eat healthy and does not put good things into her body, things just sometimes do not work right. We do know that male breast cancer is a predominately hormonally sensitive tumor (Haylock 8). The doctor will examine both of your breasts and the surrounding areas of your chest. "The thing to be aware of though is that all lumps in the female breast may not be cancer but for safety reason, it is good to get every lump inspected," says Dori Grantham, a breast cancer survivor. Chemotherapy is something that is given in addition to the primary therapy to help keep the cancer from coming back. The next risk of breast cancer is alcohol consumption. Usually, bleeding from the nipple is caused by a non-cancerous condition, such as an infection or even a small benign tumor in the duct. "My promptness to get my breasts checked is what saved me," says Dori Grantham. Radiation uses radioactive rays and involves invisible high-energy waves that can alter human cells (Massari 33-34). Bad food causes toxins to enter the body; consequently, these toxins can bond cells together in which minor cancers can occur (breast cancer information center 1). Once a doctor has evaluated and discovered the severity of the cancer he will then move quickly into treating it.
