World summit

             The World Summit on Sustainable Development also known as Johannesburg World Summit 2002, it takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa. The summit will bring together tens of thousands of participants, including heads of State and government, national delegates and leaders from non-governmental organizations, businesses and other major Groups. It will bring focus to the world's attention to meeting difficult challenges. One of the key issues addressed is education, which is vital in achieving sustainable development. Education is the base on improving health, resources, and schools.
             To begin with, education can improve the quality of care and prevent diseases and death. One of key outcomes in the summit is reducing HIV/AIDS occurrence among young men and women aged 15-24 by 25 percent in the most affected countries by 2005 and globally by 2010, as well as combat malaria, tuberculosis, and other diseases.
             The South African Department of Health has estimated that in 2001, in the general South African population, 2.65 million women and 2.09 million men between the ages of 15 to 49 were living with HIV. It was also estimated that 83,581 babies had become infected with HIV through mother-to-child transmission. These high prevalence rates show what a significant problem HIV/AIDS is in South Africa with enormous social economic and development implications. (www.avert.org) Some countries have no policies on Aids education and in others there are policies against AIDS education. People who are educated can take proper measurements preventing diseases.
