The outsider by albert camus

             At the heart of ' The Outsider' is a rebellion. Critique two schools of thought in relation to the nature of Meurseault's rebellion.
             Albert Camus wrote ' The Outsider' in 1942. During this timeframe the world was experiencing radical movements such as Nazism, Capitalism, Extentionalism and also Communism based on Marxism, where rebellion is the core of their existence highlighted through Meursault. The main character is not a hero, he has no 'true' love affair, and the pursuit of money and power never enters the story. The outsider is honest atheist, willing to accept life as it happens.
             Extentionalism is a philosophy that emphasizes a few main points, such as the freedom to choose and how the choices you make should be made without the assistance of another person or standard. From the extentialist point of view you must accept the risk and responsibility of your choices and follow the commitment wherever it leads (1). Someone who is put in the particular situation understands it far more than someone looking in on the same situation, one of which is often and extentialist writing is of death. This explains why the main character of the novel, Meursault, is characterized as detached and emotionless.
             In Meursault, Camus creates a character he intends his readers to relate to, as he creates characters place in realistic situations. This enables the reader to form a changing, ambiguous opinion of Meursault. From what Meursault narrates to the reader in the novel, the reader can understand why he attempts to find order and understanding in a confused and mystifying world.
             Camus writes in a simple, direct, and uncomplicated style. The choice of language suits well to convey Meursault's thoughts.
