Obesity
ObesitySo what is obesity? Obesity is a big problem in our world today. Obesity is always shown on the news and in magazines every month. Obesity has become a huge problem with in the American society. Almost everyday everyone deals with or encounters obesity. It's an issue that our scientist and society needs to figure out. Many of the factors such as genes, society's views, nutritional habits, and daily activities also influence the recent dramatic incline of those overweight. In 1994, the government estimated 71 million people were obese, and the numbers are continuing to grow. Researchers and statisticians cannot keep up with the data because waist bands are expanding so quickly. Maybe this is because of the 1,539 hours of television watched a year, reported by Suzanne Hamlin from the New York Times, and had an influence of $97 billion spent on fast food (Fumento 27; 53). The world society is living in today has a plethora of fast food restaurants advertising their super-size everything deals, all you can eat buffets, and unlimited food servings that offer high-calorie, high-fats and are always in plentiful supply. Portion sizes have become one of the culprits of fattening consum
In America, individuals are presented with the convenience of an overabundant amount of food, and a decreasing rate in activity levels (Pool 153). Examples of this these are the no carbohydrate diet. According to the Journal of Pediatrics, less-active parents, who tend to be obese, often have less active children. Also linked to heart disease is pulmonary hypertension, which strikes at the heart and lungs that leads to death (Pool 184). Specifically, Type II diabetes affects about 15 million Americans. This means that they are less active and get less exercise which promotes heath issues down the line. Besides psychological influences, heredity and genes can also determine an individual's weight. Fighting the temptations of internal voices to overeat makes it harder to stick to a diet because those voices say that it is natural. Eating healthy has become a conscious effort instead of it being automatic process. For parents, a way to keep their child's weight down is to maintain theirs themselves. Factors such as high-fat diets, what is available in an individual's environment, can cause obesity but only in correspondence with a genetic susceptibility. In order to reduce this, individuals must choose a plan that best meets their needs.
