Starbucks

Starbucks was established in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1972, as a unique coffee chain store. The company offers a range of different types and flavors of coffee and cafe-style drinks to all over the world. Their mission statement, "Establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining our uncompromising principles while we grow, " describes their company as being honest, ambitious, and determined. Starbucks believes that their employees are one of their important assets in that their only sustainable advantage is the quality of their workforce. For example, Starbucks sacrifices a small amount of money in order to distribute cheap cup holders, stamped with their brand, that attach to a car door. In addition, Starbucks also donates money to help out with natural disasters. Along with CARE, Starbucks began a Fair Trade system which helps out coffee-growing farmers and their families. This system allows small to medium sized farmers to receive a decent, or fair, price according to the competing market in the area. This is done through the quality of Starbucks' coffee and its coffee beans. The culture towards employees is laid back and supportive. Other partnerships will bring new products for Starbucks, such as jazz CDs, and tandem units with bagel bakeries. They try to incorporate their name in a wide range of situations. He feels it is also important to keep all the stores company owned to improve and grow the business further. Starbucks has avoided a hierarchical organizational structure and has no formal organizational chart.
