Any given sunday

The movie that had a character with the largest parallel to my character in real life was Willie Beamen who was the protagonist in Oliver Stone's epic football tale "Any Given Sunday".This great movie begins when a devastating hit knocks the Miami Sharks starting quarterback Cap Rooney out of the game, and a young, unknown third-stringer is called in to replace him. Having ridden the bench for years due to a string of bad luck, and perhaps insufficient character, Willie Beamen seizes what may be his last chance, and lights up the field with a raw display of athletic ability that lead to wins in the absence of there superstar quarterback. His stunning performance over several games is so outstanding and fresh it seems to give birth to the struggling Miami franchise, as well as forcing an old fashioned coach Tony D'Amato to reevaluate his time-tested values and strategies and begin to confront the fact that the game, as well as post-modern life may be pass him by if he doesn't learn to adapt to change. Adding to the pressure on D'Amato to change or win at any cost is the aggressive young President/Co-owner of the team, Christina Pagniacci who is now becoming her own women after her father's death. Christina's

The same thing happens as Willie goes from a great High School quarterback to a cornerback at one big college, then he transfers to a smaller school where he flourishes, then goes to the NFL as a 3rd string quarterback, to becoming the best quarterback in the league, and the only reason he was able to reach this level of success is he went through all the other transformations first. He managed to still preserve to get in to the league but was not efficient due to the fact that he had such an issue with self-pity and taking responsibility for his actions. Our examination with Willie is going to start with his college career where he was moved from his true position Quarterback to cornerback, because some redneck coach didn't like the idea of having a black quarterback, but he thought he had quick feet so he moved him to cornerback. In Siddhartha's story he becomes different things and goes through phases that help him grow as a person just as Willie does. When he changed positions he injured himself in his junior year, so he transferred to another school to play quarterback where he did well. The reason I choose this as one of my parallels is the struggle of pain to love is the exactly the cycle that Willie persevered to become the successful player he was. I feel that Willie's character flaws tie in very closely to a lot of themes expressed in the stories that we have study thus far in our class. In conclusion of Willie's journey he received his chance in a lot of ways he took it found success then never looked back not to say that their were no bumps along the way, but when all was said and done Willie began to see the light, and learn something about "character" and what becoming a true leader really is. driving desire to prove herself in a male dominated world is intensified by her focus on the marketing and business of football, in which all coaches and players are merely properties. With that being said I want to urge you to watch this movie to see the journey that was taken by Willie, and the similarities it holds to the readings in our class. With that fame in a sense he represented the younger generation, media-conscious, selfish, ignorant of history or tradition. The last example I was able to examine is the truth spoken in Genesis, and that is the basis of all human nature is sinful. The issue that is also apparent in this reading is that God knows that we will fall victim to this sin. In saying this, it is worth noting that whenever a character functions rigidly in this manner there are always consequences that seem to find you out.
