The New World
Environment is defined as all the external factors that influence life, including light and food supply. Some of the greatest nations to be influenced by their environments are those of the first civilizations of the New World, the Americas. "The New World" to me is considered North and South America, focusing on the United States later in history. This Continents environment varies extremely: from hot to cold, mountain highs to valleys low. Exactly when the first inhabitants of the New World occurred is unknown exactly. Estimates gather it occurred around fifteen thousand years ago by Homo sapiens. The New World found by what they say, Christopher Columbus, is like finding a river in the Desert. North and South America have incredible resources to utilize, followed by very encouraging weather. The Americas to me represent the fruit of the planet, as far as their environment goes. They have land that is very habitable to hunt, fish, build and explore. The land is also very maneuverable for the most part and creates great conditions for trade. The first settlers of North America, Americans were hunters and gatherers. These nomadic people lived close to their food supply. If they were promising f
Overcrowding was a big deal and it affected the people tremendously. The first New World civilizations were amazing in their use of the land and environment, considered wonderful farmers. Central America has rich farming lands with fertile soil used to grow maze also known as corn. All stone for Maya structures appears to have been taken from local quarries; most often this was limestone which, while being quarried remained pliable enough to be worked with stone tools. There fall of a civilization was also a characteristic of their environment. Particularly dangerous games to say the least, the losers were considered bad and were sacrificed also. Settlers moved to the upper swampy valley of Mexico, to move from the overcrowding. There is archaeological indication of warfare, famine, and civil wars. Enclosed on two sides by stepped ramps that lead to ceremonial platforms or small temples, the ball court itself was of a capital I shape and could be found in all but the smallest of Maya cities. There were thirteen gods of thirteen heavens and nine gods of nine underworlds. Mayans like their neighbors were great architects, their concepts were based on the land; materials seem to have been readily available. To the east of the valley of Mexico another great civilization developed around the same time as the Teotihuacan's, they are the Mayans.
