Why Vote?

             Why Vote? That is the question millions of Americans ask themselves everyday. Contrary to popular belief, individual votes for president don't count. In the increasingly controversial Electoral College, voters actually cast votes for electors chosen by the Democratic or Republican parties, who then cast their votes for their party's presidential candidate. So why did the number of young voters increase dramatically from the last election year to this year's? There are many factors that have contributed to the large increase in the voter turnout. Dissatisfaction with our current president, more voting time for students and famous role models coming together to promote voting all contributed to the increase in voter turnout this election year.
             In many ways the president has exhibited great leadership, such as pushing through tax cuts and dealing with the "Axis of Evil." When Bush does such bold things, he is applauded and supported. Yet when the public senses his administration drifting, it dampens his support. Many people are displeased with the way the president has handled our current situation with terrorism. Some believe that he has also been slacking on homeland security. There are also the hardcore democrats that Bush will never please and they will do whatever it takes to get him out of office. Bush also encouraged a lot of people to vote when he brought gay marriages and abortion. When he began to try to run peoples lives and tell them what is right and wrong it encouraged a lot of people to register and vote.
             Advance balloting allows voters to vote up to five days before election day regardless of the reason. Advance voting brought more people out because they did not have to worry about standing in line for hours at a time. Voting early also was convenient for people who have very busy schedules, either from work or school, to choose a day that they were able to vote and cast their b...
