Conquest of gaul

Julius Caesar was a patrician by birth. He held important positions such as quaestor and praetor early in his career. Caesar then became the governor of Spain. Along with the legendary Pompey and Marcus Crassus he formed the first Triumvirate. Soon after he was elected consul and proconsul in Gaul. Caesar is known as one of the greatest military rulers and conquerors in the history of the world. Not only was he a great military leader, but he also had a softer side which is obvious because of his relationship with Cleopatra. Caesar was assassinated in the Senate House on the ides of March, it is believed that his killers were led by Cassius and Brutus. The legend of Julius Caesar will always remain. His life and journeys left a permanent impression on the world. Not only is Caesar remembered as a great conqueror but he was also one of the first historians. Julius Caesar took place in many wars and battles, many of which he documented and later published his own eye-witness accounts. The Gallic Wars were one of Caesars greatest accomplishments and he made sure to document with great detail every


In order to do this the Helvetii would have to cross an area ruled by Rome and their allies. The account is very accurate and sometimes the descriptions of war are very vivid. The survivors of Caesars massacre were sold into slavery. Caesar describes Gaul and the campaign against the Helvetii, a large group of people who decided to migrate by force of arms from the Alpines through Gaul and then to the west. Caesar held campaigns against Veneti, Aquitani, Germans and Bratons. He decisively defeated both forces that he was battling. After a couple years of campaigning most of the hostile tribes were defeated and much of Gaul was controlled by the Romans. Women, men, and children were all treated the same and killed during battle. The Conquest of Gaul set an example for historians, writers and all of man kind. Caesars style of war documentation has not only helped us understand the ancient world, but it has also greatly influenced the writing world as well. Caesar campaigned with many legions in his army, sometimes as many as eight. By the end of the Gallic wars almost one million soldiers, women and children had been killed. Caesar captured the tribal capital at Avarcium. He invaded Britain and defeated Vercingetorix and locked him in prison.
