Cat in The Rain

             In the story "Cat in The Rain", Ernest Hemingway talks about a married couple that is vacationing in Italy. Italy is well known for its interesting destinations sought after by tourists. But what's interesting about this couple is that they don't choose any of those famous places; they choose a little town, mostly occupied by locals, which shows that they had to have some knowledge about Italy prior to their visit. There are almost no out of country tourists in this place, in fact they are the only Americans at the hotel that they are staying in. Maybe they chose this place because it is not as occupied and expensive as other places in Italy and they can have all the peace and are able to afford all the luxury they want. They choose to stay in one of the best rooms; their room is facing the sea and the public garden that's located right next to the hotel. Although, this isn't a tourist's occupied destination, it is still beautiful. The garden is full of big palm trees and green benches, where during sunny days artists liked to paint pictures of the colorful environment. There was also a war monument, probably from a WWI since the story takes place just bout five years after it. Also it says that people from all around the Italy come to see it, meaning that it has to be relatively new. It is a very calm and romantic place to be, and the couple is having a great time, until the day before their departure. On this last day of their vacation it is raining and the couple is forced to stay in their room. The husband is laying in the bed reading a book and the wife is by the window looking out on the environment surrounding the hotel.
             The setting of this story shows us how easily people give up. It is their last day in this beautiful place and because of rain they just stay inside, not enjoying the culture and the beauty of Italy for one last time. It is understandable that their options of ...
