The French and Indian War

In the 1750s, bitter rivals, France and Great Britain, fought over the territory in the Ohio Valley area of the Continental America colonies. They sought alliances with the Native Americans, established forts to secure land, and reignited the conflicts of interest long plaguing the European continent. The French and the British were trying to gain control over the Ohio Valley, which, eventually lead to the French and Indian War (Seven Years War) causing the French to lose most of their land. The Ohio Valley was a region of fertile land along the Ohio River. It was home to many and Native American tribes. This land was important to the French crown because it was a link to their settlements in Canada and along the Mississippi River. The territory was known for valuable fur, trading, and arable lands to settle. The English sought the Ohio Valley for the furs and the land, as well. They also wanted the land to take over the French trade with the natives, and get the French out of North America. The French struggled to set up forts to keep the English out, and both sides created alliances with the Native American tribes to help them in the war.

And we are the cloth which is to be cut to pieces between them. The British eventually convinced the Iroquois to join them because they were enemies of the Algonquin and the Huron. He launched a surprise attack which scattered the French, then, he quickly hurried and with his Indian allies, he built a makeshift fort and called it Fort Necessity. Britain had gained all of the French territory in Canada, and everything east of the Mississippi River. Before he died, he was given the news the British had been victorious. Outnumbered, Washington was forced to surrender and later the French released him. The next morning, 4,000 British troops were ready for battle. He whispered," Now, God be praised, I will die in peace. One Native American said, "You and the French are like two edges of a pair of shears. Some natives took sides with the French because they were peaceful to the natives, and did not destroy the land for farming. The Fort rested on a steep cliff above the St.
