Evita: the woman behind the myth

             Eva Maria Duarte Peron is considered the Cinderella of South America (myth; doc.). Eva was born on May 7, 1919 and was the youngest of five children. She attended school up until the sixth grade. Eva wanted the best for her country and for her people as well.
             Eva met Juan Peron at an earthquake relief fundraiser in 1944. Eva attended this gala, which Peron organized featuring film and radio stars oh the time. The gala was proposed in order to raise money for the earthquake victims. Peron, the army colonel married Evita a year later. On June 4th, Juan Peron became president of Argentina. Eva was very much involved in his politics and stuck her finger into just about all of Peron's decisions. Now that Eva was Juan's wife, she received attention from the public that she longed for. She became very popular with the working class of Argentina. Eva had used her own upbringing to show that she had sympathy for Argentina's poor.
             By the age of twenty-eight, she was the most powerful woman in Latin America. They gave her an office in the capital. Here, she organized her work for the citizens who were less fortunate of Argentina. Eva founded the Eva Peron Foundation and she used the organization to give money to the poor. This organization was funded by the yearly donation of each citizen one day worth salary. The Eva Peron foundation built schools and hospitals. A housing community, Evita Village (myth; doc.) and each of the houses were fully furnished. Eva good will spread among the country and she began to be known as the "Lady of Hope". In being the first lady, she aided a bill that allowed women to vote be passed. Of course, she hoped that her feminist supporters would help Peron in the next election.
             On July 26, 1952, Eva died of ovarian cancer. The contributions she made to her people were honest. As the documentary stated, "she was the symbol of eternal life".
