             Both Emily Dickenson and Robert Frost are excellent poets, and they have a distinct style of writing all there own. Dickenson's writings seem to be more complex, dark, and hard to read. On the contrary, Frosts poems are easier to read and he tells a story. Both Dickenson and Frost use imagery and metaphors to draw the reader into their world of how they view life and relationships. Even though they use some of the same elements in their writings, they have their own style. Dickenson uses the element of structure to show how life has a beginning and an end in the poem "We grow accustom to the Dark." Frost uses diction to show the simplicity of his word; some words are not used in its literal form, as in the friendship with the two neighbors in the poem "Mending Wall."
             In the poem by Dickenson, the use of imagery helps the reader get a sense of reality and go through the journey from life to an after life. For example, "Then –fit our Vision to the Dark-And meet the road-erect [.]"(line 8). Dickenson used the word "erect" so the reader can visualize a person standing "erect" or tall, not allowing any fear for what he is being faced with. Dickenson also uses metaphorical imagery because the details given suggest a hidden meaning. Dickenson calls attention to the word "Darkness," which could be the literal meaning of darkness but in this poem it is meant as death. In Frosts poem, there are many ways that he uses imagery to illustrate the relationship of the two neighbors. To illustrate, "That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, And spills the upper boulders in the sun" (line 2). When reading this quote, the reader can visualize the season of spring making "the frozen- ground swell" and causing the rocks to fall of the wall. Frost also uses metaphorical imagery by stating "He is all pine and I am apple orchard" (24). ...
