HIV Paper
In today?s high tech world major problems still exist. The problem that is looked at the most is Terrorism. However, there is a problem that has killed and is still killing far more people than terrorism ever has. That problem is HIV/ AIDS. This virus has killed so many people that it is considered by many to be a pandemic. This disease has devastated places like the North America, Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia. The reason that the disease has devastated so many people is because of a lack of knowledge and education on how to deal with the disease and because many high ranking politicians and other people try to downplay it severity. For these reasons the disease has had such a crushing effect on many countries. The HIV virus has two types. The first one type is HIV-1, which is the main cause of AIDS worldwide. The second type is HIV-2, which is found mostly in West Africa. People can get this disease three ways: having intercourse with an infected person, sharing needles with an infected person (or contact with an infected person?s blood on an open wound), and transfer of the virus from an infected mother to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or through breast-feeding. Those are the only ways that that the virus
After many revisions by the Center for Disease Control, AIDS is defined as anyone having a density of CD4 cells less than 200 cells per micro-liter of blood. Looking back on Africa, people that are infected are being sent to prison or killed. They feel a sense of greed that if people knew how big of an epidemic the disease actually is then it would hurt their tourist industry. Male prostitutes are a big reason that the spread of AIDS continues in Mexico. Although things currently look grim for that region, they have some hope in helping people that are infected. The biggest victims of this tragedy are children. Through computer technology scientists determined that the HIV virus originated in about 1930 in rural areas of Central Africa. Prevention education is the only logical weapon we currently have against this disease. Furthermore, many brothels are owned by prominent politicians and police officials. In Central America, HIV/ AIDS is transmitted through heterosexual contact. In Europe, it is estimated to have more than 570,000 people infected with HIV as of 2002. The World Health Organization estimates that there are about one million people infected with HIV in that area. What we have to concentrate our efforts on are on the people in the future. The police get to use them for free, as a part of gratitude for allowing the brothels to exist.
