Eleanor Roosevelt

             Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 and died on November 7, 1962. "She was an American human rights activist, diplomat and as the wife of President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Eleanor is the longest serving First Lady of the United States from 1933-1945. As an active First Lady, she traveled around the United States promoting the New Deal and visited troops at the frontlines during World War II. She was also a first wave feminist and an active supporter of the American Civil Rights Movement"(Wikimedia). Some would say she was not the best mother, but she was voted the most admired women in America. Eleanor was extremely shy and lacked self confidence for most of her life, but she was called "The First Lady of the Western World". She was scolded for interfering in affairs of the state, but she was also the eyes and ears for the president. She spent her whole life as a champion of the underdog. Some people might say she was a saint, but she really was no saint. She was a woman ahead of her time, a warm loving, sincere; a very human person who used her talents and position to help bring about much needed social change (Eleanor Roosevelt Main Page).
