The Sermon on the Mount

             The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus' most quoted, and most referenced teachings. The Sermon, a guideline to Christian behavior, worship, and spirituality, is found in the Gospel According to Matthew, chapters 5, 6, and 7. The sermon is broken into a vast array of ideological truths, intended to give the Christian church instruction for the spread of the gospel, appropriate relationships with one another, as well as those not inclined to accept the Gospel truths, and for the individual Christian life.
             The sermon opens with a fundamental, systematic, and uncluttered review of the individual's behavior choices and how those choices affect an eternal outcome, called the Beatitudes. These include famous quotes such as: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Earth."" ( Matthew 5:5) and "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."" (Matthew 5:3) These give hope to the unnourished, unlucky, and not well-off people of the world.
             Jesus moves in to a sectional teaching, using parables, analogies, and references to everyday life in ancient Israel.
             About Salt and Light Matthew 5:13-16
             " Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid, neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."" The Israelites would easily understand these analogies, as the importance of lamplight and the necessity of salt, in their time was immeasurable.
