Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong, the King of Jazz, is the most influential and well known Jazz musician. Armstrong was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 4th 1901 in a rough neighborhood. His father left after he was born and his mother's occupation was being a prostitute. When he was young, Armstrong became very interested in music and grew up listening to jazz. When he was a teen, he played with bands around New Orleans. Armstrong became so involved with music that he moved to St. Louis to join a band but then later got a position in a band in New Orleans and at the same time fell in love with a woman named Lillian Hardin. When Armstrong's career started to flourish, many people became familiar with him first through radio which was a powerful and important form of communication then, later on became familiar with him in the jazz clubs he played at. Armstrong was known best for his group the "Hot


Armstrong was very popular and had hits such as "Hello Dolly" and "What a Wonderful World". " "Armstrong blasted the music of the world out of a tired tradition of classic orchestra and mundane Tin Pan Alley pop into the exciting era of hot jazz and swing. edu/exh/armstrong/ Although Armstrong was known for playing the trumpet, he also had a very distinct raspy voice which made his songs noticeable from all the artists. Many people are familiar with his songs to this very day because he is a popular jazz icon who will continued to be known of through out years to come. He also traveled not only the United States, but the world to perform for others in which he demonstrated his amazing talent and passion for playing the trumpet.
