Ben Franklin

             Benjamin Franklin a founding father, a famous inventor, the face on the one hundred dollar bill. When people see Benjamin Franklin or hear his name they do not think of the famous physicist. He has done so much with his life that the fact that he discovered the two different kinds of electric charge calling them, as we know them today "positive" and "negative" is not what he is remembered for. His life is one of much substance and I present to you a basic overview of his great achievements.
             Ben Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 17, 1706. He was his mother Abiah's eighth child. His father Josiah was a candle and soap maker. As a child Franklin was an avid swimmer and was involved with apprenticeships from the age twelve and up. His first apprenticeship was one involving cutlery but this did not work out and he ended up apprenticing under his brother the printer of the New England Courant. This is where Franklin truly began to find himself; he found that he was well suited for this printing gig. Franklin continued with honing his printing skills under his brother until he became editor. Eventually Franklin got into a fight with his brother and left to go to Philadelphia to continue his work in the printing business. The work in the printing business continued until 1748 when he chose to retire. On his retirement Franklin signed a lucrative contract with his partner giving him half the profits for the next eighteen years from each of the printing shops he handed over. He chose to step down from his printing business so that he could concentrate more on studying different subjects and become more knowledgeable than he already was.
