How many books can someone actually say they want to ban from school? Many schools believe that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain should be banned from school because of the "racist" attitude that comes with the book, but in reality this book is just a fact of our history and culture. When this book came it was such a singular novel to many people that they thought that it should be banned because it went against there culture, but Winston Churchill made a good point by saying that"...but some peoples idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage" (Doyle n.p). The dialect and the way Twain went against the way the law was and helped African- Americans become free from slavery is just a couple reasons why schools believe that this book should be banned from school. This book should be read across the United States in any school because it reflects back to our past; therefore students need to know how much the United States has grown. One of the main reasons why this book should be read is because it has a lot to do with the United States history and culture. The way our country used to be is there was plenty of slavery and white people did not treat Afr
ican-Americans with any rights or respect. This book is the turning point for the 1800's because Mark Twain wrote about Huck helping Jim become free from slavery, and that made people pusillanimous towards him and wanted to incarcerate him, but they had no valid reasons to do so. The dialect that the southerners used was not meant to harm anyone specifically; it was just the way the people were used to speaking. In conclusion this book explains how much our history and culture has changed in the past one hundred-fifty years, and by having students read Huck Finn it can make them understand a little bit better about the idea of slavery. So now do you believe this book should be banned from school?. This novel provides information that reflects back to the dialect that many southerners had back then. To show that slavery and racism was wrong he had many examples of Huck helping Jim, and that is what students need to understand today is that its ok to help people even if it is wrong. By reading this book many children will understand what is morally right and that people should rely on their instincts such as when Huck decided not to turn Jim in. Huck and Jim would have many deep conversations on the raft as they were floating down the Mississippi river. Mark Twain demonstrated that it is ok for a white person to be friends with a black person. Students need to know about our history and culture, and by them reading this book it can give examples of the way life used to be. The dialect that they used in Huck Finn is called regional dialect, which was a form of language spoken by people of a particular region or group. An example of Huck helping Jim is when he was about to turn Jim he was very pensive toward the idea, but decided not to.
