             The American Revolution was an inevitable time in history where the settlers of England's North American colonies needed to take control and break free of England's oppression. According to Thomas Paine, an island cannot rule a continent. Previously, colonies in Africa, Asia, and Latin America had claimed their freedom from the European powers. There are many people who helped to establish The United States as an independent home land, and from those many there are legends and figures that have remained as heroes in the books of history. From those figures in history, there are few who stand out as people significant to providing a strong foundation to the United States in its early stages of nationhood. James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and Thomas Jefferson, in order from least relevant to most relevant, are three figures who are significant in the way that they helped provide a strong foundation for the United States to grow from.
             James Madison was seen as a shy and non-confrontational kind of man, who became known in history as the "Father of the Constitution". However small his stature, he was a brilliant tactician and thinker. Graduating from Princeton University, Madison was a student of history and government and was well-read in law. During the Constitutional Convention in 1787, then assembled in Philadelphia, Madison was frequently involved in the debates. Madison was able to make a major contribution to the ratification of the Constitution by writing, with John Jay and Alexander Hamilton, the Federalist essays. As a member of congress, he helped structure the Bill of Rights, of which he mostly wrote, and enact the first revenue legislation.
