Song Lyrics vs. Video Images: Tupac Shakur

Song vs. Video: Tupac Shakur "Dear Mama" Usually, a music video serves many purposes for an artist and their song. For one, it's more of a definite connection to the public as oppose to just having a song that plays on the radio. You are more likely to build a larger audience if you provide a visualization for your viewers and allow them to see how you feel and react to what you're saying. That is how we decide on which way to interpret what were hearing and develop our feelings about it. Having a music video to accompany their song could also help to clear misconceptions people may have about the lyrics. If something is said to mean one thing but the audience interprets it as something else, you may be able to look at what's going on in the video at that time and understand better the message being relayed. However for some artists, the video could complicate or contradict the message they are trying to send and instead of clearing misconceptions, it could create confusion. Tupac Shakur, for example, is known for doing the unexpected, be it in a music video, song, performance and even interviews. He always kept people wondering what was to come next. Shakur was probably most noted for his constant reference and

Again, in a song themed by love and appreciation for his mother, it's a wonder why he decides to appear at the end of the video and in that manner. This is also the beginning of the song where he explains that while growing up, he often had disagreements and fell out with his mother, which resulted in his being forced to move out at the age of seventeen. When he talked about how much of an influence his mother was and how much she inspired him, the scene in the video was another representation of Shakur and his mother having a disagreement. This is where the contradictions begin. He's saying he's aware of the struggling and hardships his mother endured while raising him and it won't go without notice. Possibly by adding this scene, he wanted people to understand the fact that he had it rough since the beginning and it was going to be a struggle. Although his alleged death occurred 8 1/2 years ago, to date, his record label has released more posthumous albums than when he was alive. He was unconcerned about how he was perceived and never let it affect how or what he presented in his music. So it remains a mystery why he decided to kill himself off in the video. It's quite complicated to try and make a clear message out of this. " Possibly by redundancy, he wanted to enforce the idea of this statement. It shows his mother in a drunken mode and tussling with a man, then falling against the wall and lighting a crack pipe.
