hamlet and ophelia's tragic love for each other
The tragic outcome of Hamlet's and Ophelia's love for each other can be attributed to many factors. The distrust Hamlet has, the accidental slaying of Ophelia's father, and the suicide of Ophelia are all reasons for the tragic ending and can be credited to both the young lovers. Prince Hamlet is mourning the death of his father when he hears the news that his mother Gertrude is marrying his former uncle, Claudius. The Prince bitterly opposes the marriage and has a suspicion that his mother and new step father have planned the demise of his father. Hamlet's suspicions are confirmed when he and Horatio see the ghost of his father who tells Hamlet that his mother and new stepfather were to blame, and that Claudius must be avenged. Ophelia, his friend and daughter of Claudius's trusted counselor, Polonius, reports to her father of Hamlet's strange acts, which is then reported to the King and Queen. Feeling threatened by Hamlet's bizarre behavior leads to the King and Queen hiring courtiers to spy on Hamlet. Hamlet soon tells the courtiers ".... I know the good King and Queen have sent for you." (page 49) He sees that spies are sent out for him and he soon starts to believe that everyone, including Ophelia is a spy. It is here wher
Ophelia has now been rejected by her one true love, and her father is slain by her lover. She then takes her own life when she drowns herself. Hamlet is referring to his mother's marriage in this sentence to Ophelia. This was sometime a paradox, but now the time gives it proof. Hamlet then states "I say we will have no moe marriage. After the slaying of her father, the King and Queen noticed how Ophelia was slowly going mad and stated "O, this is the poison of deep grief; it springs all from her father's death. The conversation between the two turns into a heated argument, and the Queen yells "What wilt thou do? Thou wilt not murder me? Help, ho!" (page 87). Gertrude's first marriage ended in a bitter slaying, while the second is a betrayal of love and honesty. His mother's marriage's are full of betrayals and dishonesty, therefore marriages in general are too and he does not want to marry anymore. Hamlet's strong distrust causes him to no longer believe in the sanctity of marriage. In the narrower sense, everything can be attributed to Hamlet.
