Abortion

             Abortions have become a very serious matter here in the United States. There were over 1.3 million abortions in the United States in the year 2000, which means one in every five pregnancies ended in abortion. Research came to conclude that the government actually funds abortions. They believe that paying for an abortion is cheaper than paying for the birth of a child. Not only is the government supporting this matter, they are actually using taxpayer's money to pay for abortions.
             I believe the reason abortions are so popular these days is the fact that they are very affordable and available in many places. The average cost of an abortion for a woman that is ten weeks pregnant is around 372 dollars. Young woman and teenagers do not think before they have the abortion. All they know is that if they come up with the money, they will not have to tell their parents. The sad thing is, is that it really is that easy. I have known a few girls that do not even use birth control anymore; they'll just get an abortion if a pregnancy occurs. The majority of abortions performed on teenagers are without their parents consent. My personal belief is that any parent should be required to know if their child has a child growing inside of them. They should have some input on the situation before the baby is aborted. There would be a dramatic decrease in abortions if the parents were to know. Yes, maybe an increase of teenage mothers, though adoption can always be recommended to these young women.
             Most young women and teenagers think of abortion as the easy way out and do not think twice about it. Little do they know how painful it is and how badly it damages their bodies. Despite the use of local anesthesia, ninety-seven percent of woman having abortions reported experiencing pain during the procedure, which more than a third described as "intense," "severe" or "very severe."
