Theories of learning case study

             In the case study I read, Roger is a 73 year old man contemplating on what he has accomplished in his life. After reading the whole case study, I think Roger had a fairly normal growing experience. Incorporating Erikson's Psychosocial Stages, the 4th stage which is Industry vs. Inferiority, talks about mastering social skills and academic years. Roger at first was not a popular student, but he was academically good. He shared that him being quite chubby made him not into sports unlike other kids who were mainly focused with other physical activities. In the 5th stage which is Identity vs. Role Confusion, Roger had his pre-puberty spurt ahead of other boys. This made him looked slimmer and enabled him to join sports. With his advanced growth, he became popular because he was able to join the activities with other boys. So in this stage, he was able to cope up well because he felt that he belonged with the other group of boys since he was into sports already. His social skills improved a lot too and that helped him a lot dealing with other kids in the school.
             In the 6th stage which is Intimacy vs. Isolation, being able to form strong relationship with others is the theme here. During Roger's college years, he met a girl named Anita which he fell in love with. They got engaged but unfortunately, the girl broke up their engagement because of another man. It took him another 6 years to form another strong relationship. But this time, he married Jackie and had a wonderful life with her in spite of the hardships. They had 3 kids, one boy and two girls. In the 7th stage Generativity vs. Stagnation, he went on to a graduate school where he earned his Ph.D. in English. His degree landed him into teaching English college courses. Aside from teaching, he also loves writing. His works got published and earned respect from other colleagues. A lot of them would discourage him to continue this but disregarded it anyway.
