Human sacrifice was essential for keeping him happy and to continue providing safe journey. According to the text there has never in history been one civilization that relied on one crop as much as the Aztec did with maize. They used it for thousands of different meals along with many other practical uses such as wound medicine. Along their journey, evidence of dissension and internal rebellion we’re evident, most likely signs of frustration due to not finding a permanent settlement. Even with an impressive defense the Mexica we’re no match for the Spanish modern warefare. This is where many that studied the Aztec believed the idea human sacrifice was derived. Shortly after in 1519 hearing wild stories of riches and fertile land, the Spanish lead by Hernan Cortes arrived at Tenochtitlan with several hundred soldiers and began their attack. The idea that 1 crop could be used for 5000 different purposes is mind boggling to say the least.

Although there are many points the author states in this study he emphasizes greatly on 2 aspects. Every time the Aztec stopped they constructed a temple for “Huitzilopotchtli” this was their most sacred deity, he was responsible for providing guidance on their exodus.

I found this study to be extremely informative, I was unaware of all the social, agricultural and political and advances the Aztec achieved. For the next 200 years the Aztec flourished as a civilization, highly increasing in numbers as well as military strength. Agriculture along with kinship, marriage and family. Family life, marriage and kinship was completely arranged.
