Ernest Hemmingway

             Ernest Miller Hemingway, born 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois, was said to be one of the greatest writers of the "Lost Generation." (A time period between World War 1 and World War 2) He was also very adventurous, outgoing, courageous, and had a way with the ladies; four wives and multiple girlfriends prove it. Starting out as a high school journalist, Hemingway rose to the top to become one of Americas most loved and well known authors.
             Hemingway first lived at 339 Oak Park Ave. in a little house built by his grandfather, Ernest Hall. He was the second child of father, Dr. Clarence and mother, Grace Hall. Out of four sisters and one brother, he was chosen to be named after his grandfather and uncle whose name was Miller Hall. After his grandfather passed away he and the family moved to a rented house near the Scottville institute library, later they built a house a few blocks away from his Grandfathers'. During high school Hemingway was involved in the yearbook, literary magazine, and the school newspaper called the "Trapeze". Later in 1924 Hemingway wrote the book, In Our Time, reflecting back on his youth and childhood struggles.
             In 1917, just a year after graduating, Hemingway was hired to be a reporter for the Kansas City Star and then quickly moved to being a correspondent for the Toronto Star. The next year he volunteered to be an ambulance driver in Italy during World War 1 were he was wounded while delivering chocolate and cigarettes to troops. He also encountered near death experiences when a taxi hit him, artillery shells blew in a hotel during the Spanish Civil War, and was badly wounded because of a plane crash nearby. While recovering in the hospital he met a young nurse named Agnus Von Kurowsky but broke up with her in 1920 because she was too young and he had to go back to America.
