A view from the bridge

Eddie betraying Rodolfo is an act done out of love, hate, desperation and possessiveness. I disagree to a larger extent that what Eddie had done was just to save Catherine from a marriage without future. Instead, what Eddie did was more for himself than for Catherine. Since the start of episode 1, Eddie had portrayed himself as a very protective person over Catherine, as seen when he voiced his concern about Catherine's new job "I don't like the neighbourhood over there". The relationship between uncle and niece is very close as Catherine looks up to him quite a lot. "Almost in tears because he disapproves". However, this relationship began to decline with the arrival of Beatrice's cousins, Rodolfo and Marco. Trouble began brewing as Catherine's attention began to waver and heard towards a certain handsome blond man, Rodolfo, as seen when Catherine praised Rodolfo's singing so much. "He's terrific! It's terrific, Rodolfo". No matter how good a man can be, it is fairly obvious to me that the main reason that drove Eddie to betray Rodolfo was not to save Catherine from a marriage without future, but that Rodolfo had been annoying him since the first day they met, and he wanted to get rid of that annoying source in the easiest

Here again, I can see that Rodolfo is a pesky bug in Eddie's life that doesn't seem to be able to be squished. The kissing scenes were mainly just to show Catherine what a real man "taste" like and to prove that Rodolfo is homosexual as he is not only blond and effeminate, but also because eddie managed to "pins his arms" and Rodolfo was too much of a weakling to be able to overcome Eddie's strength. Later in the book, we see that Eddie is getting desperate and tries to look for a way to stop the relationship between Rodolfo and Catherine. Alfieri here acts as the catalyst in hinting to Eddie to call the immigration bureau to betray Rodolfo and Marco. " In episode 5, Eddie decides to try to take the more physical approach to the situation by teaching Rodolfo how to box. Go ahead" and when Catherine tried to follow suit, Eddie, on the brink of drunken insanity, "kisses her on the mouth". Also, initially Eddie had been hesitant to call the immigration bureau because he did not want to get Marco into trouble as Marco had never done anything to him. In episode 3, we find out that Catherine to Eddie is a Madonna, all pure, and Rodolfo is a stain that will only stain the perfect "woman" image of Catherine that Eddie had created. Secondly, Rodolfo is effeminate and can sing and cook really well. Overall, I think that what Eddie had done was wrong, and even worse, he did not to it for the sake of Catherine's happiness. This allowed them physical contact and Eddie got more irritated as he could only stand by the side and not do anything but watch. Eddie here has nothing more to lose as he had just destroyed Catherine's faith in him and Rodolfo's respect for him. Eddie is apprehensive as the physical intimacy between Rodolfo and Catherine keeps increasing.
