Lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth's hunger and accomplishment for power is portrayed by selfishness and deceitfulness. Lady Macbeth was persistent in becoming Queen, so she did everything in her power to satisfy her selfish desires. She did what she could regardless of who she hurt and how bad the extent of the actions were. She strongly persuaded her humble and ambitious husband, Macbeth, into killing the King Duncan. "Yet do I fear thy nature, It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness; To catch the nearest way" (Act I, Scene V, lines 17-19). Her selfishness ate her up inside and she struggled with her guilt. After Duncan is killed by Macbeth, Lady Macbeth runs into some problems of her own. But little did he know that she was the one who planned out the steps towards his death. Lady Macbeth deceived her husband through lies to become Queen. With those words she taunts Macbeth and fills him with guilt. Not only did she influence Macbeth but she also deceived King Duncan leading him to believe that she was such a wonderful and graceful woman by the speech that he heard from her at the castle when he arrived. She was not able to live with her conscience knowing that she created an evil human being inside Macbeth and know that she no longer can over power Macbeth's decisions. Eventually, when Macbeth backs out of the plan she treats him with contempt and makes him ashamed of his decision. She believes his ambition will interfere with her desires of becoming Queen. Macbeth knows that what he will be doing is wrong but Lady Macbeth has this mind controller on him that no matter what he will follow her orders. She planned out the killing of Duncan and was relying on Macbeth to carry out the plan. Just when Lady Macbeth could not take it anymore she leads herself into committing suicide. She would question his authority and quest to become King.
